The People Who made Our Trip
Every trip has its landmarks — beaches, temples, sunsets.
But ours? Ours had people.
The souls we crossed paths with who, whether they knew it or not, changed us. This blog is for them. A collection of names, moments, and memories that left something behind…
Agus helped us get home one night in Canggu, putting his evening on hold just to make sure we were safe. A quiet act of selflessness we’ll never forget.
Jon, the “coconut man,” reminded us how far simple joy can ripple. His playful spirit and comfort in his own skin made everyone around him feel at ease — like you were already his friend.
Paul, who had chosen a slower, simpler life, showed us that “taking it easy” is a gift — and a choice.
Angga, our surf instructor, taught us the beauty of doing what you love, even if it means earning a little less. He was gentle, patient, kind — the most calming presence in the water. With him, learning to surf became a practice in surrender, and in not overthinking. He kept singing to me "don't worry about a thing, every little thing, is gonna be alright” while a big wave would pass
Max, our yoga teacher, reminded us to breathe — not just in class, but in life. He showed us how simple life can be when it’s aligned, and that the balance between challenge and peace starts with your breath. Before we left, he asked, “Can I give you a hug?” — a sweet moment of human connection that felt beautifully normal.
Agung, who picked us up from Uluwatu, ended up staying in touch and organizing more of our travels — even picking us up at the ferry when we came back from a different island. His English was limited, but his smile and laugh said it all. We shared stories and snacks on the road. We miss him.
Ngakan from Suri Nusa Inn made us laugh daily. A true ladies' man with a heart of gold, he told us stories of his life on the tiny island of Nusa Lembongan — a place he never wants to leave, even for love. His excitement about full moon parties that bring locals and tourists together was a glimpse into how the community thrives here.
Cynthia, our waitress one morning in Penida, encouraged us to rent scooters and explore — even though we were nervous. Her honesty about her own fears gave us courage. Later, we encouraged her to try snorkeling, even though it scared her. That mutual encouragement was a reminder of what we can give each other when we’re open.
Salinn, the kind woman who taught us how to ride scooters, trusted us more than we trusted ourselves. She invited us into her air-conditioned office, told us about her life, and even gave us her “cute helmets” because, as she said, “We are girls — we must look cute.” I’ll never forget that.
Maya, the sweetest soul, who took us under her wing and after her mothers invited us to join in a temple water blessing ceremony. From all the tourists, she picked us, complimented our good energy, and showed us how to pray in their sacred temple.
Tini, the cutest lady who helped run our airbnb in Ubud. She invited and arranged for us to join the Galungan celebration. Her kindness, friendliness and openness will stay with me forever.
Nyoman, the owner of our airbnb in Ubud. He invited us to take part in their holiday celebration known as Galungan. For the day we were his daughters. His wife and daughter showed us how to bless the temples, pray, and they even invited us to join their feast.
Supredi, who took us to the volcano hike, loved practicing English with us. At one point, he asked, “Do you love life?” And when we said yes, he smiled and said, “I do too.” A moment that struck us with its simplicity and depth.
Ato, the kind, patient manager of a tattoo shop who helped all the girls get something to remember this life-changing trip. We met him during our first week in Canggu and returned on the last day of our trip, right before leaving. His calm energy made the experience even more special.
Each of these people shaped our Bali chapter in their own way — and we carry a piece of their energy with us now.
If you’ve ever met someone while traveling who left a mark on your heart, you know exactly what we mean.

Thank you for reading this — it means the world to us. These stories are more than just memories; they’re proof that kindness, openness, and connection still live everywhere. Isn’t this what life is all about?
We would like to make a space where these types of stories can be shared, celebrated, and remembered. If someone changed your trip — or changed you — we’d love to hear it and learn from it too!
